Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Receipt Scanner at https://receiptscanners.com (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.
Effective date: 2026-08-03 · Last updated: 2026-08-03
1. Who we are
The Service is operated by Receipt Scanner (“we”, “us”, “our”). Contact: receiptscanners.com@gmail.com (Contact Us).
2. The Service
Receipt Scanner is a free, browser-based tool that helps you photograph or import receipts and similar documents, run on-device optical character recognition (OCR), review extracted fields, and keep expense-related records locally in your browser. Features may include books, budgets, insights, bill splits, exports, and guides.
Important characteristics of the Service:
- No account registration is required for core use
- Receipt processing is designed to run on your device; we do not provide a server that stores your receipts for OCR
- The Service is delivered primarily as static web assets (hosted via CDN infrastructure)
- Features, accuracy, and availability may change over time
3. Eligibility
You must be old enough to use the Service under the laws of your country (and at least 13 years of age, or the higher age required in your jurisdiction). If you use the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.
4. Licence to use the Service
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Service for your personal or internal business expense-tracking purposes.
You may not:
- Copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service except as allowed by law
- Reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code except where mandatory law permits
- Bypass security, rate limits, or access controls
- Use the Service to build a competing product by systematically scraping our site content in violation of robots rules or applicable law
- Misrepresent affiliation with Receipt Scanner
5. Your content and local data
You retain ownership of receipts, images, PDFs, expense entries, and other content you provide or create (“Your Content”). Because processing and storage are designed to be local:
- You are responsible for the accuracy and legality of Your Content
- You are responsible for backing up data you care about (export / full backup)
- Clearing browser site data, switching devices/profiles, or browser storage eviction can delete local records
- We cannot restore expense data that exists only on your device
If you contact us by email, you grant us a limited right to use that correspondence to respond and operate the Service.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Violate any law or third-party rights
- Upload or process content you do not have rights to use
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, probe, or compromise the Service or its hosting
- Distribute malware or engage in fraud, phishing, or abuse
- Use automated means in a way that harms availability for others
- Submit content that is unlawful, including child sexual abuse material or other material prohibited under applicable law and platform rules
We may suspend or block access (including via network security controls) if we reasonably believe these Terms are being violated or the Service is being abused.
7. No professional advice; scan accuracy; payments and legal matters
The Service provides assistance tools only. It is not an accountant, tax preparer, bookkeeper, payment processor, lawyer, auditor, or financial adviser. Nothing in the Service constitutes professional advice of any kind.
7.1 Scan and OCR correctness
Optical character recognition, field extraction, confidence scores, categories, currencies, and related automation can be incomplete, delayed, or wrong—including on clear photos. Causes include image quality, thermal paper, layouts, languages, fonts, and software limitations. Confirmation screens exist so you review and correct values before saving.
We make no guarantee that any scan, extraction, total, tax amount, merchant name, date, invoice number, or other field is accurate or complete. You are solely responsible for verifying every value against the original document before you rely on it.
7.2 Payments, money, and financial outcomes
The Service does not process payments, transfer money, settle bills with merchants, or guarantee any financial result. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for:
- Overpayment, underpayment, failed reimbursement, or disputed charges
- Errors in expense claims, payroll, bookkeeping, or corporate cards
- Losses from relying on incorrect scanned amounts, taxes, tips, or currencies
- Any payment, banking, wallet, UPI, card, or settlement decision you make
7.3 Tax, legal, regulatory, and compliance
You are solely responsible for tax filings, GST/VAT, audits, invoices, employment or contractor records, expense policies, and all other legal or regulatory obligations. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for:
- Tax assessments, penalties, interest, notices, or disputes
- Legal claims, fines, or regulatory action related to records you keep or submit
- Failure of local data, exports, or backups to meet a legal or audit standard
- Any decision to use scanned data as evidence or official documentation
Always keep original receipts or authorised copies where the law or your organisation requires them. Use a qualified professional for tax and legal questions.
8. Third-party infrastructure and open-source components
The Service may be hosted on third-party infrastructure (including Cloudflare) and may include open-source libraries and models (for example OCR runtimes and fonts) subject to their own licences. Those components are provided under their respective terms. Third-party services are not under our exclusive control; outages or changes by providers may affect the Service.
9. Intellectual property
The Service—including branding, site design, text, graphics, and software we provide—is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any right to use our trademarks except as needed to refer to the Service truthfully.
Guides and help content may be used for personal reference; mass republication requires permission unless we state otherwise.
10. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy describes how information is handled, including on-device storage and technical hosting logs. By using the Service, you acknowledge that Policy.
11. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ANY WARRANTY OF ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, OR RELIABILITY OF SCANS, OCR OUTPUT, OR PARSED FIELDS.
Without limiting the above, we do not warrant that:
- The Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free
- Any scan, OCR result, or parsed field will be accurate, complete, or fit for tax, legal, payment, or audit use
- Local data will never be lost, corrupted, or deleted by the browser or device
- Defects will be corrected
12. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE AND OUR SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE—EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, LOSS, COST, PENALTY, OR DAMAGE ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO: (A) INCORRECT, MISSING, OR MISREAD SCAN OR OCR DATA; (B) YOUR FAILURE TO REVIEW OR CORRECT EXTRACTED FIELDS; (C) PAYMENTS, REIMBURSEMENTS, TRANSFERS, OR FINANCIAL DECISIONS; (D) TAX, LEGAL, REGULATORY, OR COMPLIANCE MATTERS; OR (E) USE OF THE SERVICE AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR PROFESSIONAL ADVICE OR ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM (IF ANY) OR (B) USD $50.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (for example certain consumer rights, or liability for fraud).
13. Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify us against claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from Your Content, your misuse of the Service, your reliance on scan or OCR output, any payment or financial decision, any tax or legal matter, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law, to the extent permitted by law.
14. Changes to the Service and Terms
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (in whole or part) at any time. We may update these Terms by posting a revised version on this page and updating the “Last updated” date. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice on the website when practical. Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance, except where mandatory law requires otherwise.
15. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time and delete local data as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. Provisions that by their nature should survive (including disclaimers, limitations of liability, and indemnity) will survive termination.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence require otherwise. Courts located in India shall have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes, subject to any non-waivable rights you may have to bring claims in your local courts.
Before filing a claim, please contact receiptscanners.com@gmail.com so we can try to resolve the issue informally.
17. General
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
- Severability. If a provision is unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect.
- No waiver. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a reorganisation or transfer of the Service.
- Language. The English version of these Terms controls if translations are provided.
